Bad Weeds 181: For Rickey Williams: Suicide and the Golden Gate Bridge

The tragic legacy of the Golden Gate Bridge added a friend's name to its list last week: Rickey Williams. He was a 28 year-old, strong, proud, black gay man who worked hard to help fight AIDS among his brothers. He died last week on July 24 when he jumped from the Bridge. He will be missed.

Nice one Corkey..my Dad blew his brains out with a shotgun. There was nothing I could do. I thought it was because he found out I was Gay...My Mom says he had "homosexual tendencies", and that there's more of the story to share..but only when I get older. Dammit Mom! Tell me the whole damn story (before you're too damn old to remember it)!!

Thanks anon...
I'm sorry about your dad. Definitely get mom to spill the beans!
Suicide is such a cultural taboo AND also runs so contrary to our basic survival instinct.
Hmmmm

I really appreciated this episode, Corkey. Hopefully your friend is doing well. Happy Anniversary, and I have a creepy fascination with death, so don't think your alone in finding the physics of the whole thing fascinating.
